Did you know they lock visitors inside the jail too???

Well, now you are all wondering who was in jail and why........wouldn't that be a juicy story!

On to the real story and it was a little unnerving....Tuesday evening, I was heading out to my RS meeting when I saw on our (private) road, a large set of keys. I figured I would pick them up and return them to the owner. Well, the information on the key chain, store cards and such led me to believe these keys belonged to someone from Texas. I don't know anyone from Texas.

I decided to take them to the police station and give them the keys to find the owner. Well, as it were, the city police said that because I live in the county, I needed to take them to the county sheriff's office. Of course, it is after hours there, so the officer told me to drop them off at the jail.

Now, I have never even driven past the jail, let alone, gone in, or near, or anything else.

So, I went to the jail. First, I had to be buzzed in.......that led to a small corridor--yes, now I am locked in the jail. There was a man there and I asked if he could help me, you know, with the key dropping off thing, I really thought there would be just a little place or window I could drop them off at......no, I had to be buzzed into the next small room (locked in again) to even talk to an officer. The officer was really a jerk, maybe he could tell by my shaking hand that I was scared to death being there, if he was, shame on him! So, I give him the keys and tell him where I found them.

I turn to go and he doesn't open the door.......I asked him three times to buzz the door so I could get out. He was eating his dinner and wasn't in a hurry to get to the buzzer. I'm sure it was one of the highlights of his evening, seeing my great discomfort at being locked in the lobby of the jail. Thankfully, the next door was buzzed open a little quicker and I was finally FREE!

No, really, by the time I got out of there, and it was a least 10 minutes, and if you are locked in a jail 10 minutes seems like 4 hours!.......I thought I was going to throw up. I'm sure I was quite pale and looked as scared as I felt. My heart was pounding! I almost ran to the car and while doing so, noticed some officers across the lot chuckling at me! can you even imagine! They thought it was funny. Well, I DID NOT!

Moral of the story, don't ever be nice after hours! You could get locked in the jail, if even for a short time! (seemed like an eternity)

**Only turn in lost items during working hours so you can take them the the sheriff's office which is only marginally scary, and they don't lock you in corridors and lobbies there.**
